ARAN was successfully reactivated during the 6th May Virtual Recoordination Meeting
The Virtual Recoordination Meeting of ARAN was held on 6th May, 2021 by the acting secretariat China Institute for Radiation Protection (CIRP) in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Representatives from 16 countries within Asia and the Pacific region attended the meeting (and Turkey representative as observer). Representatives from Networks including African ALARA Network (AFAN), Asian Radiation Dosimetry Group (ARADOS), European ALARA Network (EAN) and Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology for Asia and the Pacific (RCA) were invited to the meeting. Vice president of CIRP Mr. Liu Liye acted as the chair of the meeting.
During the meeting, the overview of the Occupational Radiation Protection programme of the IAEA, designed regional projects and information about the ARAN network were presented by the IAEA. The CIRP proposal for ARAN reactivation, including the Terms and Conditions and the website, was introduced by the acting secretariat. Representatives from invited networks share good practice and experience of network operation.
Acting steering committee was elected during the meeting, within which Ms. Chadia Rizk from Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission was elected the acting chair, Mr. John Konsoh Bin Sangau from Malaysian Nuclear Agency and Mr. Mohammad Hassan Kharita from Hamad Medical Corporation (Qatar) were elected acting vice chairs, Mr. Cao Qinjian from China Institute for Radiation Protection was elected the acting secretary. IAEA representative Mr. Burçin Okyar was also included in the acting steering committee.
The acting steering committee will be responsible for the preparation of the Management Board Meeting to be held virtually in 2021 or during the first or second quarter of 2022 in person if the global situation allows, which will reach an agreement on the Terms and Conditions of ARAN and activate the ARAN activities indeed.
